We didn't attend any of the main shows but we explored the other attractions and the food. It was loads of fun! After two years of pandemic isolation, it was really nice to be in this festive atmosphere surrounded by people enjoying themselves.
One of the main highlights was the Elbow River Camp of the Indigenous people of the region. It was absolutely fantastic! We attended a dance performance there and at the same time learned more about their culture, traditions, and ceremonies. We also ate bannock with jam, which is a heavy but tasty snack. Definitely going to come back again next year!
Once a year world renowned outdoor festival. Must visit in lifetime. Obviously crowded as this is just 10 days event. All rides are lined up and have a lot of waiting in the queue. Recommend to buy all day ride pass and Express lane pass. Full day event or atleast multiple day entrance is an option for someone who can enjoy Carnival environments. Late evening rides will not be that much crowded. Almost 4 days you can enter free of cost (sponsored by different companies) and rest its paid days. Wide variety of food options. Fun unlimited.
Having lived out here for 12 years I’ve only been to Stampede twice, with last week on Friday parade day being one of those. After two long years of the pandemic, it was nice to feel the energy and the excitement, and the rhythm of the music at the stampede grounds. It can get overly crowded for sure and unfortunately there’s always the ones that don’t know how to behave properly, but mostly overall people were having a good time. That’s what it should be about. I have to leave one star off because I don’t agree with the use of animals in entertainment, and inevitably there are always animals that get killed at this event which is an aspect I detest.
The Calgary Stampede should be done at least once in a lifetime, if you can make it.
The Rodeo is such a display of skill and the Chuck wagon races are something special between man and horse.
Lots and lots of rides for the young or young at heart, just be prepared for the long lines, you can get an Express Pass and allows you to skip the long lines.
There are magic shows, motorcycle jump shows etc.
Every night there are amazing fireworks.
Lots and lots of food, literally everywhere you look. Wear a hat, it can get hot in the daytime.
Most Definitely worth a visit.
We went to the Stampede last summer (2021) and we had an Amazing time! I'll start with the Fireworks...the amazing Fireworks, just, when we thought the fireworks were over...they would start again :) Definitely the most wonderful fireworks display I'd ever seen.
The show itself was very organized, even, with such a large area, we never really felt lost because of the abundance of information available. Well done Stampede organizers.
