Although it's fairly difficult to get halal meat here (I had to call a few times before they had it in), the chicken was well worth the wait. I'd say it's probably the best chicken I've ever had. The sauces were flavourful, the outside incredibly and satisfyingly crunchy, and the inside tender.
We've been trying out a few different Korean fried chicken places in Calgary and were very excited about this new spot! It's in a very unassuming strip mall (coincidentially by another amazing restaurant - Bamboo House).
We ordered the family combo 2 with some friends, which has one and a half chickens, fries, two sides and a 2L drink. The chicken was so juicy throughout, and the breading was perfectly light and crispy - 10/10! It also stayed crispy from the first to the last piece, which was great.
We tried all three sauces - hot, mild, and soy garlic - on the side, and the consensus was the hot was the best, with the soy garlic coming in second. The hot started out sweet and flavorful, with a spicy finish; the mild was very sweet (a bit overwhelming) with no spiciness; and the soy garlic was very nice and light, with a bit of a honey flavour and nice garlic finish.
We also loved that they had crinkle cut fries - they were very tasty and crispy, with a seasoning salt mixture on top. It was a very generous amount in the large size container.
As our two sides, we chose gravy and coleslaw. The gravy was fairly basic, not a standout but did the trick. Depending on how much gravy you use, it is also not a very big portion, with just two very small containers. The coleslaw was very creamy and had a nice vinegary flavour, but was very small - definitely only enough for a couple bites per person when shared with three or four.
Overall, we were all very happy with the meal and would definitely go back. Glad to see another great local spot open up and I hope they do well!
Ordered one of the big chicken meals that comes with the fries, salad, and pop. The chicken is DELICIOUS, and the quantity was way more than expected. Stoked on that. The fries were good, very similar to the ones you can get from Yum Yum. The macaroni salad, however, was probably one of the worst macaroni salads I've ever had. You can see that there is a dressing - but once in your mouth it just tastes like macaroni noodles with carrots. Needs more seasoning/better dressing. Improve on that Mac salad and this would definitely be 5 stars.
Came to Chicken Haus around 8:00 and placed an order, immediately after us a couple placed one as well. We were told our order would be done in 20 minutes so we waited in the car and then came in after 22 minutes. As we walked in, the cashier brought the couples food who ordered after us out to their car telling us “yours is coming now”. As he came back inside, he handed us half of our order and said the last item is coming and told us it would take 3 minutes. We stood there for 12 minutes as our last item came out. I don’t really understand not finishing an order before starting another, this was the equivalent to if we ordered, got the food, and ordered again. The service was definitely lack lustre and the prioritizing of orders was weird. On to the food, the chicken was nothing special, we got the soy garlic and spicy (hot). The soy garlic sauce was really runny and we had to constantly dip our chicken back in the sauce; the flavour was good though. The spicy did not have this issue and was also pretty good. Their radishes had a very muted flavour, not like other pickled radishes we have had. They also do not refrigerate their 2L bottles so that was an interesting experience. The best part of this visit was 100% the chicken burger. Extremely tasty, this is probably the only item we would come back for and order regularly. Overall, there are better Korean fried chicken places in Calgary; but we are glad there is on in the NE. Not that bad, give the chicken burger a try!
I was happy to discover another Korean fried chicken spot that isn’t in downtown or across the city from the NE. It’s located in a residential area away from the usual places like the mall where traffic is usually more congested.
The Spicy chicken (mild) was tasty. I highly recommend it even if you aren’t a spicy eater as the spice level is extremely mild. The sweetness of the sauce stood out more and in a good way.
I placed a phone order and the service over the phone was also prompt and friendly. I definitely see myself becoming a frequent customer here.
