This was the best contractor experience we have had. Our deck was in need of a surface replacement, railing replacement and regrading. We took the opportunity to have an outdoor counter with storage and barbecue, and fireplace with overhead heater, installed (spring 2019). Today, it remains beautiful.
Sundeck, in particular Marc and Nolan, laid out a detailed plan and item budget, line by line. With any delays due to weather, or product availability, we were informed as they were informed. Marc and Nolan made suggestions, such as railing upgrades, or barbecue upgrades, but also had more economical suggestions, such as a smooth vinyl deck surface which we ultimately went with, and from a design perspective was more in line with our house than a wood/composite surface would have been. When the wrong doors were sent for the outdoor counter, they were sent back, no questions. When the fireplace height felt too high (correct height according to plan), we pointed this out to Marc and Nolan, who pointed out that sometimes the best laid plan doesn't always feel right, and we made the decision to lower. The site of construction was cleaned daily, and the on site bin emptied as needed. After they were finished, I went to "clean up" under the edge of the deck, and found one screw. I am not even sure it was theirs. Over the course of construction, we communicated at least several times per week with either Marc or Nolan, often onsite or over text/phone/email. Their work crew is kind, hard working and diligent to their craft. Our deck exceeded our expectations. Thank you.

For the last few years our upper deck had been deteriorating and so last fall I looked online for a firm to rebuild it. One of the builders that looked promising to me was Sundeck Solutions. Our next door neighbour had had their deck rebuilt several years ago and when I talked to them I found out that Sundeck had built their deck and they had only good things to say about their experience. So I contacted Sundeck and made an appointment with Marc to come out and give me an estimate of what the rebuild would cost. Marc walked me through the various options for a rebuild and pointed out that the old deck was not built to code and that would be a problem if/when we tried to sell the house. On the basis of Marc advice we decided to go for a complete rebuild and Marc gave me a detailed estimate of the cost. Unfortunately it was late in the fall and we were unable to get the deck construction underway in 2021. It would have to wait until the spring of 2022. One concern I had about this was the sharply rising costs of lumber and labor. I worried that the cost to build the deck in the Spring might rise significantly. I was assured that barring extraordinary circumstances Sundeck would honour their Fall estimate. In fact, the final invoice when the deck was finished, was exactly the estimated price from the fall of 2021.
Work began on the deck in the spring of 2022. I got an email from Nolan Hill of Sundeck Solutions in March informing me that he would be the Project Manager for our deck work. He advised me what needed to be done in order to get the work started. This involved me getting an updated Real Property Report and Nolan using this to get a building permit. There were some delays waiting for the ground to defrost. Initially I was surprised that the work needed a Project Manager. Soon I began to appreciate that there was significant coordination and communication required for the deck project. There were a number of small teams whose work had to be scheduled and any issues resolved. There were people with a machine to drill the new postholes, a truck to bring a waste bin and park it our driveway. There were 2 carpenters who tore down the old deck and then built the new deck. A 2 man team painted the Smart Board of the new deck and another couple of men installed the soffit. Lastly a stucco worker reapplied stucco where the new deck joined the house.
Nolan coordinated the comings and goings of these men and kept me informed when weather or unforseen events delayed the work. When I had questions, he was responsive to my phone calls and emails, and he kept everything moving forward smoothly.
In my dealings and conversations with the various workers I was impressed with their friendliness and professionalism and I was always treated respectfully. One problem arose in the carpentry work rebuilding the new deck. The lead carpenter Andrew discovered that the old deck railings would not fit properly on the new deck, since the old deck had been constructed without parallel sides. Andrew puzzled for several hours, trying to build the deck properly instead of ‘wonky’ like the old deck had been. He was greatly agitated that he might not be able to build the deck properly. I was very pleased that Andrew was so professional and conscientious, that he couldn’t bring himself to build the deck improperly. Eventually Marc, Nolan and Andrew decided to have the railing modified, so that Andrew could get back to building the deck - with proper parallel sides.
The deck is finished now and I am very pleased with the result. I would not hesitate to recommend Sundeck Solutions to anyone needing a deck built or rebuilt. I have found Sundeck to be courteous, professional and conscientious; they know what they’re doing and they have the expertise and staff to execute it well.

From design/estimate stage to the actual construction of the walkout balcony, it has been a wonderful experience and journey that we are glad we had with Sundeck.

I expressed my dream for a balcony on a serious budget. Sundeck not only really listened to what I hoped for, but they put together a design that I didn’t entirely understand or appreciate just how amazing our balcony was destined to be until it was built. They took my dream of a balcony and made it so much more. I swell in pride with the masterpiece we have now and I like to think that our balcony is the envy of the neighbourhood. At the very least, my harshest critics, my in-laws and especially my dad, are amazed and awed by our balcony. They rave about the quality of the materials. They rave about the design and how safe it is for my young kids.

Too quality design! Top quality materials! Top quality people! Top quality customer service through and through from the beginning to the very end. Sundeck staff are the hardest working and genuinely the nicest people I’ve come across in my life.

The team at Sundeck Solutions did an amazing job extending and refinishing my deck. We were able to enjoy the deck all summer long and often receive positive feedback from guests about the excellent craftsmanship.

Marc’s customer service is second to none. He took the time to meet with me, assess my needs and provided multiple pricing options for consideration.
