Only went to the driving range for my friend's lessons. The staff were kind and courteous. We got to drive down to the driving range in their powercart which is a nice touch to the experience. Though you'll have to cross paths on two holes so be aware not to interfere or at least acknowledge the players before moving through. Their is a standard dress code. Check their website for more info. Otherwise the all day driving range access for $20 is great!
My friend's lessons went well and she had a great time. Definitely recommend for the driving range experience. Their range is carpet and can use a relatively short tee into the carpet if you want to use the driver. Though most will advance forward onto the grass. A little sketchy as I've seen some miss hits off the tee! On your discretion only!
Great place for clubs we had our Christmas dinner there, good food.
Fantastic. That is the best word to describe the all-around service at the Winston for the wedding reception of our son and new daughter-in-law. Spectacular food, very flexible arrangements (planning during on-and-off COVID restrictions). Sica was fantastic to work with and it was a beautiful end result for our kid's celebration.
I started playing fairly regularly at The Winston last year and I was so impressed I bought an annual this year. Unlike most courses, the members here here are lively and not your typical pretentious type.
The Course:
Carved out of the lush Alberta landscape this course looks like it is maintained by Artemis himself (the Greek god of Nature). Smart tee boxes, smooth fairways, and true greens; you can’t beat it. Whether your a scratch golfer (like my buddy Wales, also a member) or a weekend hacker you’ll enjoy your round. Do you need a beer to compliment your round? The half way house and beer cart girls got you covered.
The staff:
Did Jesus have children? I’m not sure but if he did the staff at the Winston would be his offspring. At the top there’s the GM Dale. What a beauty. Not only can he run the show he’s quite the golfer himself. I’ve even seen him get a hole in one after striking a smooth 7 iron out of his playing partners bag. How about the pro’s you ask? Do you need help hitting bombs (not me); check. Short game yips? Scott and the crew got everything your game needs.
The clubhouse:
Like describing that girl your buddy hooked up with from Tinder the clubhouse is “homely” but has a nice personality. It’s only a matter of time before they give Mike Holmes a ring and he makes it right. Until this happens, you can enjoy the refreshed Regal lounge and new menu from Chef Miguel. ‘I want a burger’ you say? Chef Miguel responds with ‘how about I wake up at the crack of dawn to bake your brioche bun in house and add a hand-made beef burger on top?’. Beef not your thing? Weird but okay, there are plenty of options to keep you salivating.
Summary:
Calgary has options when it comes to golf and the Winston is one of the best. If you come out, have fun, replace your divots, and fix your ball marks.
