Great spot to camp. There is a new road/toilests/bear lockers. It can get really busy in summer time.
What an astoundingly beautiful location. The lake is a bright aqua-blue set against mountains. Got here around 8p as the sun was setting and was able to find a tent spot right on the beachfront. You can park along the road and walk your things in. No fee. (Heads up: Friday night late in July meant many parties alongside the beach.)
No amenities, no water. Latrines we’re fine, have some bear lockers and recycle/garbage at the entry-exit.
Abraham Lake never disappoints. No services so come prepared. Nordegg and David thompson resort are nearby to drive if you need fuel. Nordegg has more stores and services though. Very quiet and peaceful. The are washrooms and bear boxes close by if needed. Sometimes it worth looking around for that hidden gem of a site. Must be careful if going out on the lake . The wind is Unpredictable. The views of the surrounding mountains are awesome. Lots of trails within driving distance and some horseback trails as well. There are helicopter tours located the western end of the lake but I can't remember the name of it. Banff national park is about 75 km west. Make sure to buy the camping pass online before you go. Wardens sometime check if you them.
Amazing place to camp in with your trailer as there are also good spots for tents. Maybe a little too close to the highway but didn't bother us a bit. There's a clean and very well maintained outhouse. It can get very crowded in the weekends specially during peak season aka summer. Other than that if waking up next to the magical blue glacier waters is what you want then this is your site 📍
The lake when frozen in winter is magical. You can walk on it and see the frozen bubbles. Dress really warm and have snow boats on.
