Ran up this hill a few times, back in late February. Still a lot of snow and some ice starting to show up. Decided to top at the start of the shale section due to no more path. The path up is packed down ok for the low volume of visitors but it's easy to misstep and post hole, sometimes 2-3 feet deep as you get near the top.
Hikable/runable without traction aids but I recommend snow shoes if you want to continue to the true peak.
In late March, expect much more ice.
I Really enjoy this little mountain.
This is a great hike from the parking lot to top and return! It’s a easy-moderate difficulty hike. Recommend taking a bagged lunch to stop at the top for lunch and enjoy the views! Plan on 4 -5 hours duration.
This was a great hike. It was a hard push to the top, but glad I didn't give up. The views were tremendous. 3 hours to get to the top and one and a half to come down. Narrow trails once you get up there and I would highly recommend bringing walking sticks to help out the knees on the way down
It's a trail head parking lot. The fact that it has a bathroom with toilet paper, and it's regularly cleaned makes it 5 stars alone. Beautiful area with great trail systems. Definitely not to be missed if you are hiking in the area.
Well made and maintained trail to summit. Fantastic views. We did the trail in early spring and it was fairly well traveled; use caution if avalanche danger exists. Large cornices but a dry, windblown summit.
Repeated the summit in July to complete the ridge; long day but an easy to follow trail exists up the ridge from Beaverdam Campground. Much shorter trip if you have two vehicles.
