My kids have been attending here for 6 years now. We've had great experiences and results up until my oldest hit grade 6 in 2017/2018. His teacher was TERRIBLE. We questioned why there was no homework being sent home (he had homework in 4th and 5th grades) and she said she 'didn't believe in homework'?!? I was upset by this but thought that as long as the kids were getting what they needed during class hours then that's fine. She always told us he was doing fine and his report card was very vague and said he was fine in Math and with no homework or marked assignments coming home, we took her word for it. However, when the year end assessment came, we discovered that he was in need of serious help. Anyways, we are watching very carefully this year and finding out that he and others from his previous class were not prepared for 7th grade math at all! So we've hired a private tutor and he's doing quite well.
Also, my youngest child started kindergarten this year and it appears that the teacher doesn't like 5 year old boys that have energy. It's like she thinks they all have learning disabilities!? She had him assessed by a speech therapist which is fine as we get all our kids assessed anyways around this age, but she basically said she did it because she thinks he's too energetic!? Much to her dismay, the therapist said that he was perfectly normal for his age and she didn't find him too energetic at all. She said he was very attentive and engaging with her and very smart for his age. Sounds like the teacher just has no patience or time to connect with him is so she's trying to find a way to take the responsibility off her plate. I know teachers have it rough in a public education system, but we've had great teachers up until these two. Some are very smart and knowledgeable, but don't have the personality skills required to teach children. The best teacher at this school was moved into administration. Good for the school district to get a good employee but not so good for the kids missing out on her fantastic teaching skills...
Anyways, this school is awesome. :)
Great Mandarin Bilingual school in the South. For those parents who choose a weekend Mandarin school for their kids, DON'T ! I highly recommend you choose this Bilingual Program so that your kids are ACTUALLY using their chinese on a daily bases. We are not a Mandarin speaking household. My son is in this program a few short years and is already speaking Mandarin very well. Many cultural activities and a big CNY performance annually.
The most important part of a school to me is the staff and support staff. We have had a great experience with our teachers and the Jean, the principal is dedicated to the school and the students. My son enjoys school and learning here.
