This is a nice place if you're wanting to go camping. But I would suggest going elsewhere if you want a beach/lake.
When we chose to go here, we were thinking because it is called Johnson's Beach that it would be a nice beachy place with a decent lake. There is a beach that was probably very nice 20-30 years ago when the water level was higher. The lake does look very nice, but when we asked the owner if there was a place we could go into the water, he advised us against it. Getting into the water you would sink your feet into a bunch of muck which would make you want to shower right away and you wouldn't enjoy the lake.
The campsites are decent sized, fire pits at each campsite, but no grills on the pits. The day use area fire pits have grills on them though. They have fire wood available for you to buy. The trees and grass are very well kept. They have beautiful flowers up by the main office where they also have a little mini golf setup. They also have horseshoe pits. It is a nice place if you're looking to get out of the city for a few days. Not very busy, so it is very peaceful. They have washrooms with toilets, sinks, and coin operated showers. Potable water and camper/trailer dumpsite in the front area as well. Really decent price as well. The owner/caretaker of the place seemed like a nice guy as well. We did enjoy our stay. It is a nice place as long as you're not wanting beach/lake.
