Liked the history behind the big rock and how it got where it got in the first place... also liked the myth or legend behind the reason why the rock is split in two.. overall, the location is beautiful with the rock right in the center and vast pasture surrounding it... U can also get a clear view of the rocky mountains on a clear sunny day!
A great place to visit, and sometimes get in a little climbing (or bouldering for some). A nearby Calgary climbing club (CMC) has done an annual cleanup of the area for over 30 years. Unfortunately, some visitors are not as environmentally conscious as the climbing community.
Well, what can you say! It’s a pretty big rock.
In the middle of a plain, so out of place yet so beautifully in place. There are information boards about how it got there all the way from Jasper! A short visit location but you can just chill there. A 10 min walk around the rock. Good parking options and historically impressive! Feels good to have visited here!
P.s Sorry the photos are dark, we got there after 10.30 PM.
A must stop. I’ve driven past this place many times as a younger man and had the opportunity to be in the area again for the first time in many decades but decided to stop and walk around this magnificent piece of history.
Very cool!
Super cool! First time seeing something like this. A couple of cons about the experience. The trash all over the place was very disappointing to see. McDonald's and Tim's cups all over the place, including right beside the garbage. Definitely needs to be better maintained. And the racial slurs written in permanent marker beside the information about the rocks should probably be cleaned off?? My wife is half Jamaican so to say it was offensive is an understatement.
