Great view from the cabin onto Lake Agnes. Moderate hike up but we'll worth the views. The lemonade was very tasty. You will likely be waiting a while to be served as it gets very busy. Also only takes cash.
Firstly, they accept credit cards now (with $1 fee). Secondly, honest opinion? Great location. Stunning lake. Wonderful views. But...underwhelming tea. It's important to set the right expectations. Although they are a "teahouse" with a "hundred varieties of tea", it's mostly basic stuff with mild flavoring. Do not go in expecting some strong Himalayanesque chai that rejuvenates your insides. When I asked for the "Mountain Masala Chai", I was disappointed to receive a kettle of black tea with no ginger or cardamom or cinnamon...and a separate pot of milk. My expectation of a masala chai was spices and milk boiled together with strong tea leaves. If I hadn't overhyped the tea in my mind, I'd have enjoyed the experience much more. As I mentioned, the location is just exquisite and the idea of sipping hot beverage at the end of a hike in cold weather is enticing. Maybe you'll make a more informed decision on your tea (I also felt a tad rushed to place my order). The biscuits and sandwiches were quite decent. There is a queue to get a seat. Should you go to the tea house? Absolutely. The views along the way are great once you get higher. It is a constant climb though (1.5...2 hrs if you're taking lots of photos) but 45-60 mins to decend without stopping. The last section of the trail though, was unpleasant because of all the horse poop. Anyway, hike light but bring a warm jacket for the top (it's much colder). Definitely visit the tea house as a "reward" but manage your expectations. Outhouse restrooms available in the area. If you do this hike first, you may find the hike to Larch Valley more manageable after the first steep ascent.
What an incredible experience! This was my first tea house hike and I love it! We got great seats after a short wait. The tea and soup was good and the sandwich was edible. I didn’t come for a fancy meal though, I came for the experience and I got exactly what I hoped for!
What an experience. The hike to the tea house was worth the tasty bits offered and the views to enjoy them alongside. This trek is not for the faint and took quite a bit out of us the entire way up but the reward was well worth the experience. Food was tasty and drinks were refreshing. Be mindful there is no electricity or running water. You have to take your trash with you. They do accept cards with a fee but would prefer cash. Be mindful of the birds…. They will steal your food.
A cute little tea house! The menu changes and some items may be soldout. You have the option of takeout or dine-in; both don’t take that much time as most people are only snacking. There is space for bags under your seat/table but I would recommend to pack lightly as it does tend to get crowded.
The hike up was a little over 1hour and fairly easy to get too. There are a couple of rougher paths but nothing too dangerous. The hike down was definitely easier.
There is a vault-style washroom but there may be a long lineup so I would recommend avoiding it unless you really gotta go!
The chocolate cake was sweet; a good dose of energy! It would be nice to have the menu in more places.
I’d recommend going early; these pictures were from around 9am on a Saturday
