Love the history behind this rock.
That's one big rock! Or two?
It's worth the walk, and the paths nearby are quite picturesque. There is very little vandalism. Sage grows nearby.
The paths east become quite fun to explore and the rocky hillsides make you feel the old river quite well.
A great park for walking. Good pathways and lots to see
Split Rock is a feature of the Nose Creek Valley @ Confluence Park. Walking through this valley, one can appreciate the efforts of urban designers who incorporate natural settings like the Nose Creek Valley. Good, wide pathways above the valley with trails leading up, down and all around. Caution should be used in some areas due to creek bank erosion, icy pathways in the winter and the always present dog poop. Still it's great for walking, running and cycling.
I come to confluence park all the time since I can walk a loop from my house to it without repeating the trail. The split rock is quite a neat spectacle since there's nothing else like it in the park. It's kept relatively clean so vandals and other miscreants hasn't completely ruin the uniqueness of the rock. On a unrelated note, I had dinner there recently with a friend (packed dinner), and as we decided to set ourselves by the split rock. We couldn't avert our attentions from one thing. Was it the glamourous sunset? The wind swaying the wild grass and plants? Or maybe was it each other? No, it was an insistent wasp that kept bugging us for a bite of our food. While it never got to our food, it was so annoying and flew so close to us that I had to remind it about social distancing and when that didn't work, we called the cops and it was arrested. Suffice to say, I am going to court to have a restraining order for the wasp when I am consuming food or drinks, which is always.
