I can't say enough about the great job Richard and his crew did in adding insulation to my house.
Due to poor sealing in the walls of the crawlspace, I had rats in the insulation. To fix this, the crew had to pull all of the old insulation out, a nasty smelly job crawling around on rock and loose shale with very little headroom.
They then carefully went all around the foundation walls, and found all possible entrance points for rodents. They added concrete and wire mesh to make it rat and mouse proof. A thicker layer of new insulation was then added to improve my home's energy efficiency. I also had an additional 10" of insulation blown in to my attic. Fortunately, there is a BC Hydro rebate to cover some of the cost.
This had to be the nastiest possible job, but it was all done in two days of hard effort with all of the crew diligently, efficiently, and cheerfully completing the work.
In addition, I live on Pender Island, and Richard had to take two ferries half a day each way with his big truck and trailer just to get here. He also had to put the whole crew all up here for three nights to get the job done. It is difficult to get contractors to come over here because of this.
I phoned 15 insulation contractors on Vancouver Island, and only 3 of them called me back. Two said they wouldn't come over here to do the job. Richard was the only one willing to look at it. He happened to be here on island the next day, and gave me a very fair estimate. The final price of the job was more than fair, considering how nasty the work was.
I'm really appreciating having a clean, well insulated crawlspace and look forward to lower energy bills.
Work was well-coordinated, and a good job was done at insulating our attic and our crawl space. Our floors definitely feel less cold!
