Drolet Design

This was no small renovation project. Our house was on the market for months, and then reduced in price because the layout was so “choppy” and undesirable. Buyers knew it required an overhaul reno, including completely gutting rooms and removing structural walls. Jamie really listened to our goals and wishes and made a design that was both modern and practical.

He really opened our minds when it came to the kitchen and explained thoroughly how certain features would make it more functional. We hired a professional for a reason, to have seamless blueprints for construction, and that is what we got. We couldn’t be happier with our open-concept kitchen and living room. Jamie also went above and beyond by giving us several recommendations on interior design topics such as flooring, wall colours, and cabinets. Now, instead of saying our house is weird, our friends and family comment how beautiful and big our home feels!

I would like to start by saying that I am a very analytical, perfectionistic and meticulous person. I could not have found a better match for my personality. Other people have mentioned it already, but he really did go above and beyond with my project. He was always trying to recommend solutions and resources to keep the renos within my budget. I really felt like I had him in my corner the whole time. He put his heart and soul in my project. Jamie was really patient with my requests always took the time to explain things to me so I would understand the reasoning behind certain design choices. Finally, he takes great pride in his work. It is extremely rare these days to find someone as dedicated as he is. I would not hesitate to recommend him to anyone.

I am very pleased working with Jamie. He came up with a design for an addition that fits well and compliments the existing structure. He was very helpful in dealing with the cities planning and building inspectors. He follows through from design to project completion. I have recommended his services to people I know who are planning future projects.

Jamie Drolet of Drolet Design has been great to work with on our older home update project, adding a new kitchen and deck. He listened to our ideas, gave lots of suggestions on how to make them work, connected us to trades and guided us through getting all the necessary permits and approvals in place. In January of 2020 we began to design a new home in Sooke, British Columbia. We retained Mr. Drolet to design builder-ready plans for us and to also prepare 3-D renderings of the home.

Starting from a very rough scheme that we had put together and our expressed needs, Mr. Drolet drafted complete blueprints, elevations, detailed selection of components, and electrical and plumbing specifications. We found Mr. Drolet very knowledgeable, easy to work with, and an excellent guide to the construction industry on Vancouver Island. As a bonus, he is also a useful resource for ideas on where to travel and camp on the island.

Perhaps most impressive was his ability to improve almost everything he touched. He took the scheme we started with and made multiple adjustments that dramatically improved the layout and use of space, while at the same time improving the ease of construction. He took the list of kitchen cabinets and appliances that we requested along with an open space concept and made it all work symmetrically and elegantly. He provided cost effective solutions to some difficult problems.

The plans were completed within budget and on time. Builders were uniformly impressed with how detailed the plans were and how those plans made their job easier.

We would highly recommend Mr. Drolet to anyone seeking to design a home.
