I'm giving this 5 stars because I've had a wonderful experience seeing the same counsellor multiple times and she was amazing.
You have to be aware that this is a university and that lots of people seek relief, support, and advice, but they don't have the capacity, so weekly visits aren't possible, unless it's absolute emergencies.
That taken into account, the quality of the counselling is really good. Especially if your depression or anxiety is school related, exam-relates, they can provide relief and exercises for you to perform. If your depression is out of control and you need weekly support: it's worth seeing an actual therapist.
So, in a nutshell, for university counselling it's amazing.
They give support when you need it, but it's really not an ideal setup. The counsellors can carry a pretty big waitlist and you don't always get to pick who you see. It's a good on-campus option for UVic staff, but if you can afford private counselling, it's probably worth it.
