Salt Spring Island Natural Cemetery

We turned down a dirt road that said "farm stand" and ended up finding this incredibly special place instead. I had the priviledge of finding myself here on the year anniversary of my father's death. The main area you pull up to feels like you're in the bottom of a bowl, surrounded on all sides by West Coast forrest with farming buildings peeking through at a distance between the trees. I've never seen such a peaceful cemetery.

We also got to meet both the owners of the property. Gavin chatted with us a bit about the place and their story and we saw Cathy on our way in and out as she was tending to her horse. You want to meet some genuinely good folks? Look no further. This couple is incredibly real and down to earth. And they're 100% right...their dog IS super cute! Bless your family for taking on the responsibility of being caretakers for the dead and doing it in such a natural, respectful way.

I look forward to growing old and watching this cemetery mature. It was an especially unique experience seeing a brand new resting place in the midst of development, where the wood chips lining the trails are still springy and squish forgivingly under fooy. New trails are being laid right now, even. We'll be visiting again during our next trip and have recommended our friends and family to respectfully visit this place too :)

It was amazing working with this cemetary to lay loved ones to rest. There were no hidden costs, they worked closely with the funeral home (almost as if they were the same company - so smooth!), and very responsive to any inquiries we had. Beautiful location, and very peaceful.
