very beautiful to visit in sunny day. It looks like a horror movie scenario : )
This is a place of the 1000 that we should visit in our life.
Amazing day spent exploring Fort Rodd Hill and the lighthouse. We went at the end of February and although most of the buildings were locked up (down season) we enjoyed having the entire fort to ourselves and only a couple other folks....cant wait to come back in the summer.
Very well preserved and maintained Parks Canada historical site. Admission was just under $4 and allows you to explore the many exhibits, both indoor and outdoor displays. Rich in history from its 19th century fort remnants to second world war coastal defence installations, followed by a beautiful lighthouse at the tip of a picturesque rock formation.
An hour is plenty of time to see everything.
The building and underground magazines in the fort were interesting. The views are magnificent. There are places to have picnics and when we were there part of it was closed because they were doing some work. The nice thing about this lighthouse was that it was open to the public. There were various displays of information about the history of the lighthouse and some of the rooms showed how the lighthouse keepers would have lived. What a relaxing place to visit.
Great family friendly experience. Beautiful lighthouse as the reward at the end of a leisurely walk. We took many photos and just enjoyed learning bits of history along the way. Inexpensive (~$4/person) and exceeded my expectations. Some very clear water to the sides, fun for skipping rocks :)
