Amazing and diverse artwork from all over the world. Perfect for Emily Carr fans !!!
We were very lucky to go there.
What a great gallery! Lots of unexpected surprises to discover. The layout was a little weird and I almost missed the room with Emily Carr, Lauren Harris, and Maude Lewis. One of the hosts told me that people missed that too. My favourite part was the Takao Tanabe works - I'd never even heard of his work before!
I should also note that AGGV made the experience very safe and friendly during the pandemic.
Located in a quiet neighborhood, this gallery+museum is certainly a pleasure to visit. Great place to learn about local artists and their works. Miscellaneous collections of handcrafts. Also many pieces from Asian countries. Good opportunity for local people to get a glimpse of the history of the far East. The space is well organized, with clear visiting route. The staff is friendly and helpful.
The AGGV is quite small, but it manages to host very interesting exhibitions. The chief attraction at the moment if an exhibition places the works of Emily Carr, which are the gallery’s pride and joy, among works by a number of other artists who were in the modern tradition. The comparisons are fascinating. There are three other special exhibitions at present, each of them moderately interesting. The museum shop is very good, and a visit to Spencer House, the mansion in which the gallery began in 1951, is also worthwhile.
