This is one of my favourite trails. It is a bit challenging but not very difficult. It definitely worth going there once. It is very steep. You gaing about 800m in only 3.5km (7 km in total). There are washrooms at the begining and at the end of the trail. After reaching the top we usually continue our hike for another 3.5 km. It is another trail but mostly flat. I certainly recommend doing that if you have enough time and water.
Amazing views
Coming from Vancouver to do the hike is a long ride, however, it's totally worth it.
The trail is steep and provides a very good leg workout. The views over the Fraser Valley are spectacular. The trail is well maintained; markings are clearly visible and there was absolutely no garbage along the trail. I am making this a point, since we noticed an increase in waste along hiking trails. Three weeks ago hiked up Mount Chem and you could have loaded a truck with all the item on and along the old logging road.
We had a great day.
This hike will blow your mind.
Bring a hiking stick because it gets rough at times
Elk is a great hike and if you have time continue on to Thurston. Hiking time will vary greatly depending on your fitness level, it is a pretty steep trail but in good condition.
Elk mountain is easy to get to and is a beautiful hike! Big trees and spacious forest make for nice scenery before you get up to the big views up top. Can just go to the boulder lookout, or continue on to the true peak of elk and along the ridge trail to Mt. Thurston. Great winter hike because the trail is so well used that it gets packed down to ankle depth max! Be sure to wear microspikes. The good ones at Mt
Waddingtons cost $90.00.
