Soowahlie Indian Band

A Fantastic warm loving community. I personally had a wonderful experience with both Gate keepers and a couple residents, but a big shout out to April Moore. With being a resident of Cultus Lake I would often hear stories of the area and when things would go missing, the finger would get pointed towards the Soowahlie Band. Sad since it’s so far from the truth. Their land just happens to be a short cut for these ‘street collectors’ to get between Cultus and Chillwack. With homelessness on the rise, camps are everywhere and a large one near Soowahlie lands. Having spent the day with a few residents, I felt the unity, strength and frustration it takes to keep their families safe and support they made available to me invaluable. When in Cultus make it a point to stop and say hi, but most importantly respect their lands especially during Covid. With those gate keepers, I can tell you they’re safe, just wish we had some gate keepers here too! Thanks again April Moore, keep up the good fight.
