  Probably the best trip of my life, was truly life changing

  HL&D has delivered an extremely fun and educational experience for the month I spent in Ecuador. I got to shadow doctors in various fields including ER, OR, sports medicine, radiology and more! As an undergrad, I found this experience very valuable as I got to experience first hand if I want to pursue medicine as a career. While doing the rotations, patients are always the number one priority and we, the students, do not perform any medical procedures. We observe and have tutors that accompany us and explain what is happening as we do our rotations. Cameras aren't allowed ensuring that the patients have complete confidentiality and security. Building homes in Ecuador was my favourite part of the trip as we got to interact with the community by building homes alongside them and also doing activities, like playing soccer! Travelling around Ecuador was amazing; going to horseback riding along a volcano, surfing on the beach and tubing in the Amazon river were some of my favourite activities I did there! If you want to volunteer abroad or are interested in the medical field, I would highly recommend this trip as I was an experience of a lifetime for myself.

  My experience through HLD (ecuaexperience) was an incredible one. The fact that I had the chance to learn from doctors and medical students, give back to an incredible community and explore an amazing country all in one month still baffles me. Each portion of this trip is unique and eye-opening in its own way, however the volunteer portion (building houses for a community) was by far the most rewarding. I was absolutely blown away by the people of the community of Pujili. They were all very welcoming, grateful and patient with our group. They also had the most admirable work ethic, and I felt very fortunate to be working alongside these individuals knowing how much these houses will help change their lives. Students are also given the opportunity to shadow doctors down in Ecuador and watch medical procedures (from a safe distance). I would like to note that in no circumstance are students actually allowed to perform any kind of medical procedure on a patient.
  
  This trip is perfect for students who believe they are interested in medical school and/or are interested in volunteering abroad and making a difference, while exploring and discovering an incredible new country.
