Really great roll cake and a great value as well!
Recently (Feb 6, 2019) moved to 3256 Saint Johns Street in Port Moody. Great Japanese-style bakery. Excellent cakes (typically best to order ahead), creme caramel, mochi, and other baked goods including my favourite: Okinawan-style shortbread (the green tea one keeps me coming back). They don't typically have a lot of stock in the display cake as they make things mostly on demand. We typically get their cakes for celebrations and they are tasty, tender, and not too sweet. Real whipped cream and other good ingredients. They've also been happy to write in hiragana on our cakes when asked for a birthday or some such event. I'm posting a photo of one of the smaller ones we've gotten from them. Very high quality and nice people to boot.
Some of the best cakes around. They make very traditional Japanese mochi as well as really good (and not overly sweet) roll cakes too
No sitting area, only for take-out. It's BEST TO CALL AHEAD AND ORDER FIRST, as you will find the display case half empty upon your arrival. Everything here is made to order or prepared on the day. I've tried almost everything they have on their menu and everything is delicious. Very authentic Japanese dessert. Cake is soft and fluffy. Whipping cream is so light yet delicious. Most of their desserts are not too sweet. The chestnut rolled cake is probably the sweetest among all the rest of the desserts.
Their Japanese style pudding is the BEST! My favourites are the original and Royal Milk Tea! There's also sesame, matcha and coffee flavours.
