Minnekhada Lodge

Closed at the moment and looking a little sorry for itself during the winter, the gardens will be beautiful in the spring.

Our stay-cation (holi-stay) started with Minnekhada Lodge. "Park road closed to vehicles, use Quarry Rd. entrance ". For none locals a disappointing experience, for sure. So I fixed the maps app so the correct web-site and added the hours of operation. Only Sundays from 1pm-4pm. The only saving part of this destination trip was seeing a Black Bear Mom and her Cub, while parked by the closed Lodge Gate.

Great venue, horrible staff do book a viewing with. The guy that lives on the grounds is really nice though, it was a pleasure working with him!

This is a heritage location with a long local history. Apparently Queen Elizabeth visited here on her visit to Canada. There are some tales that the house is haunted. A friend had a brief paranormal encounter there, well - depends if you believe in that sort of thing. Surrounding the lodge are beautifully manicured gardens and lush forest with an abundance of hiking trails. 70 bears live in the vicinity and often make an appearance in the dusk and dawn, so please be aware when in the area. The lodge itself is a perfect location for events such as weddings and birthdays with its cosy, wooden interior and serene surrounds. Parking is limited.
