Nice space, and is very well built. The acoustics are amazing and the place is cool in general. Playing there was a great experience!
Great atmosphere. The decoration around the stage was quite ornate. The sound is fabulous.
Absolutely fantastic. I enjoyed the UBC production of Silent Night better than I have some professional operas. Certainly worth the time to go and see for any person who likes opera, or for someone who'd like an introduction to the genre.
Very high quality opera and staging at the Old Auditorium, which, despite its age, is very comfortable and well-suited to this use. The translation of the lyrics is projected on a large, clear screen above the stage, so it is easy to follow the nuances of the 'dialogue'. These artists, though young, display a mature and fully enjoyable mastery of their voices and their dramatic roles.
UBC Opera House has a classic or vintage feel that one would want out of an opera house. The seats were comfortable, the stage is visible from any seat, and the sound system filled the theatre while not being too loud. My experience here was coming to listen to cognitive psychologist, linguist, and author Steven Pinker, so I cannot comment on the plays or other performances here. However, I can say my visit was pleasant.
