Great local shooting range and love the Salmon hatchery in my back yard in Surrey
The most beautiful place to visit for a walk. The paths run along side a small stream (can't remember which) and there's photos from the late 1800's and early 1900's from the local area of early logging, schools and general stores etc. and informational posts about the local flora and fauna. I almost never see any other people there even when I'm there for a couple hours so it's a very nice quiet and interesting spot for a walk. I have seen deer, owls, cray fish and even a mink with a large snake it's it's mouth there. There's a medium sized pond with approximately 12 larger sized turtles in it that I see every time I go. The pond is also filled with lots of frogs and tadpoles. They do a salmon count there every year and if you go in the fall you can watch large salmon passing through the counting gates. A large part of the rest of the year you can also see many small fish in the stream. They have tanks for raising salmon for release. They aren't in use this year possibly due to covid but most years you can see them which is interesting. There's a big house on the property. It is not occupied and can be rented (I believe) for weddings etc. Be sure to check out the turtle pond next to it. The hatchery does not cover a large area but you can still manage to spend a couple hours walking there as there is so many interesting things to see. There's picnic benches as well although I was told due to covid they do not want any large gatherings there currently. You may want to contact the hatchery if you do want to have a family get together there etc. It is my most favorite place for a walk in the area. Truly a hidden gem.
