Bust of David Oppenheimer who served as the second mayor of Vancouver from 1888 to 1891. It was established in 1911 with citizens' donations. Born in Bavaria, now southern Germany. Succeeded as a general merchant in an inland town during the gold rush. Moved to Vancouver in 1885 and demonstrated his talent not only in business but also in politics. Supported the development of Vancouver in the early days. The infrastructure that he worked on during his four-year term, including the establishment of a fire department, the ferry of the Burrard Inlet, the construction of trams, the extension of waterworks, and the opening of a public hospital, are all shaping Vancouver today.
