There are 100 one acre properties, with lake and river access
This is a beautiful estate, but it is also a private estate with a locked access gate. So you either must visit with a friend who has a place there or own a land title within the estate yourself (not easy to get). If you do not own land there, but wish to see it in person (me), the area is best viewed by canoe or small boat.
Larger watercraft seem somewhat un-ideal for this lake because, despite it being a reasonably sized body of water on google maps, it has many suddenly shallow sections near the points and shores which are made of glacial rubble. There were also many deadheads lurking in the open water. I encountered these, and the rocks and trees seemed like they could damage any boat that hit them. However, my small boat has a very shallow draft and is easily maneuverable. I therefore was able to get by these sections and around the obstacles with little trouble. A larger boat might be too heavy and low in the water for an emergency "look out for that!" kind of turn to be effective.
To view the estates by water, you'll have to enter the lake from the provincial park campground, which is on the opposite end of the lake. It should be noted that there is no place to effectively land your boat on the estate side of the lake that isn't private land, so unless you're having an emergency, you'll have to stick to the water.
The road to the estates has a big flagged sign at the bottom, right on the highway, that says "no access to birkenhead lake". This sign is supposed to help you, and is true. There is no public vehicle access to the lake from that road, which I found out the idiot way 🙃
Great vistas, conoeing, fishing picnicking
