While I didn't get to stay over the holidays as originally planned, I wanted to leave a review for the customer service I received so you also understand the type of owner that Max is.
I booked in January 2020 for December 2020. I have a bucket list that I keep checking things off of and spending a week up at Whistler skiing was one of them. 2020 was going to be the year that I did it and I did a lot of research trying to find a place I could afford for a week, and contacted to book almost 12 months out of my stay.
Cue the Covid-19 pandemic. I thought I would be able to go, and still planned to go. In my area, there became restrictions that you could not be in the company of other households unless the other household was a single person. I thought I would still be able to go and might have enough single households. In November I confirmed that I would still be coming, and the first week of December got Covid. I am the careful one and after that, my friends were not willing to go.
I reached out, and Max actually refunded me.
I was not expecting this at all. He isn't a big corporation that would have access to tonnes of credit, but a small business owner. I was thinking that I would be offered a credit at maximum, especially given the cancellation policy, but I was offered a refund. To say I was shocked is an understatement, and appreciated given job loss and a myriad of other things.
I wanted to write a review to recognize the human behind the business.
I do not think that I will be able to do the week in Whistler in 2021, but when I am in the position again to make it happen, the first place I will be looking to book is with Max. There are no words for how much I appreciate the refund, especially given that I am still trying to work through a promised refund from a hotel in the Maldives from May 2020 which wasn't my fault. I look forward to coming back to Whistler in the future, and I would never hesitate to re-book given this experience. Thank you Max!
I spent more than one month and half in Southside Lodge with my boyfriend, during the pandemic. We really liked this place : our room was spacious, clean and with everything we needed. We had our own bedroom, toilets and shower. The kitchen is to share and it’s full equipped :perfect if you like to cook like me ! The owner and the manager are very nice and we felt welcome there !

Great location with a fantastic diner underneath. I stayed for a good month back in the day and highly recommend it. You’re right across the road from the Creekside Gondola, and can still walk to Whistler if you’re motivated. A more chilled out vibe and less hustle and bustle.
Stayed in the lodge November 2018 and now also here for November 2019. New renovations since I was last here makes the place feel more modern, the staff (Max & Julie) are extremely friendly and helpful, great location and reasonably priced, overall a great place to spend your time in Whistler!
The hostel is in a great location in Creekside, easy walk to Gondola, and close to shops, bars etc. Hosts (Julie & Max) have been super friendly and helpful during my 3 week stay. Easy to access Whistler Village by bus (currtently $2.50) or a 20min pedal up the “sea to sky” path.
