I am rating it as 3 stars because they claim the zoo is open winter and summer. I went during winter and, unfortunately, I didn't fully experienced the visit. The "warm zones" are sometimes too spread out in the zoo and some are really closed to each other.
Animal selection is awesome, we loved to see them. Some were sleeping, but hey, that shouldn't change your experience. Location is a bit far from city center, but easily accessible. Staff was friendly and they looked devoted to work their.
Price was fair, 43$ with taxes for 2 adults, and the buildings look well maintained. Pathway in the zoo is good, but not well indicated on the map (mostly because it was winter).
Overall, winter experience may not be for everyone, and not convenient for families with young children (hard to push strollers in snow). Pathways are plowed, but there's still ice/snow on them. Summer experience should be awesome though.
The 'new' zoo is much improved. The focus is on northern animals (although not exclusively) and the jewel is the "Voyage to Churchill". This is the polar bear and seal environment that is exceptional. The zoo currently has 9 polar bears, mostly rescued from northern Manitoba. They have a large roaming area but there are many vantage points. The highlight is the underwater tunnel, where, if you're lucky, you can watch the bears cavort. There are always seals who seem eager to perform. There are other northern animals and birds as well as South American animals in a tropical house. Lots more to see and they're building more. Highly recommended
First time visiting the zoo since the new entrance off Roblyn and first time in winter. Definitely impressed with the changes that have taken place over the last few years. Loved the. Journey to Churchill exhibit. The Churchill Grill was a pleasant surprise and is definitely an improvement over the old concession. Clean and great view!!
Journey to Churchill is an excellent exhibit. I've visited many times and it is always a great experience. The new wolf exhibit is also excellent. I would recommend watching the trainers feed the wolves. They answer any questions you may have after the feeding.

Juno was relocated on a temporary basis to Assiniboine Park Zoo in March 2017, giving her the opportunity to socialize and engage with other polar bear cubs close to her age as she matured. She is now almost three years old. This weekend, the Zoo is inviting visitors to join us for some extra polar bear themed activities as we say farewell to Juno.
