I visited Natural Health Services to see whether medical cannabis would be a good option for me to assist in managing my mental health needs (anxiety and depression) and complement my prescription medication.
I booked an appointment online and their website was nicely designed and easy to navigate. I completed the intake form online as well.
When I arrived at NHS for my appointment, I met with a nurse who went over my intake form with me and confirmed the information and issues which I was seeking help with. I then saw the doctor who informed me how medical cannabis could help my conditions and discussed the recommended dosage. He recommended oils with high CBD and low THC for my conditions. While waiting for my appointment initially, I was provided with an informational booklet to read through with lots of info about cannabis and its benefits.
Next, I met with the patient educator who informed me about cannabis in general and the various LPs (licensed producers) which I could choose to order my product through. I chose to split my prescription between two LPs based on their prices, high CBD oils and good reviews. I had done some research ahead of my appointment about the various LPs and would recommend doing this to see what products are available from each one. You can read user reviews on the website lift.co. The educator forwarded my prescription to both LPs and indicated that I would receive an email from them when I could then register and order product. It is also an easy process online to switch to a different LP through NHS if you want to try other products.
The staff at NHS were kind and knowledgeable. They listened to my concerns and questions and were patient and genuinely caring individuals. The facilities at NHS were simple and clean. It looked like a regular medical clinic. I waited for about 20 minutes for my appointment with the doctor and another 20 minutes for the meeting with the patient educator. In total, I spent around 1.5 hours at the clinic. NHS is completely covered by Manitoba Health so there is no fee for an appointment there. You don't actually get a copy of your prescription, but I was told that when you make your first order, it will be printed on the product.
Overall, I was very pleased with my experience at NHS. It was very organized and simple. I am looking forward to trying CBD Oil to see if it works for managing my mental health and stress. Would recommend NHS to others seeking cannabis as an alternative natural health product.
Super helpful and knowledgable!
After struggling with Fibromyalgia and Neuropathy for almost 2 decades, and taking every MD-prescribed antidepressant, anticonvulsant, epilepsy and seizure medication on a daily basis for my excruciating pain over those 2 decades......I made the informed decision to make an appointment with NHS.
Within 24 hours, I had my date set, and was off to the races. They gathered a thorough health history, asked what current medications I was taking. And then had both a nurse and physician interview and assess me.
Next came a session with an educator, who is very knowledgeable about all the licensed producers, strains, and symptoms that are treatable with the products. I had my prescription forwarded and verified and was registered with the licensed producer in only a few days.
I cannot stress enough to you if you're out there sitting on the fence, twiddling your thumbs, and trying to decide if this is right for you. Make the call! These people take the time to listen and answer your questions. Unlike some MD's who are in bed with R&D and the Pharmaceutical companies. Then do what's best for 'them' regarding 'your' health. The staff at NHS are extremely professional and impressive.
And what impressed me the most was that I was told.....'there are no guarantees, it may or may not help you.' At least I didn't feel like I was being sold or manipulated just so that they can move their product and reach their monthly quotas.
So, don't suffer silently. For all of us that live and struggle and cope with daily pain and go to some really dark places when the pain is so bad, and the meds don't work.....and you're just ready to check out. Pain that in most cases can't be detected or measured by typical diagnostics (blood test, stool sample, urine sample, x-rays, etc.) You owe yourself the opportunity to see if this is right for you. And to sit down and engage in an intelligent conversation with some very well-educated folks.
So, thank you, NHS.
Very knowledgeable, friendly and careing. They will also help you fill out application for ACMPR. Great service, great people working there.
