K2 Construction Positive assessment review written by Anthony B.
Why I like K2 Construction:
They were able to handle every job I could think of, give practical suggestions to make a layout work for our needs, generate accurate time estimates and precise financial quotes, and overcome challenges that I had assured them wouldn’t happen yet did. And all of this was done without once disturbing the 7 people in the home at any given time!
What they did for me:
Metal roofing, chimney and attic vent removal, knob and tube wiring removal and replacement, reinforcement of roof rafters/collar ties/attic floor joists, window purchase/delivery/installation, remove fibre glass with wood chip insulation and misc. waste, staircase construction, and arrange additional contract subletting for electrical and spray foam insulation and natural gas to electric hot water tank exchange and conversion.
Exceptional traits:
K2 really had an eye for price cutting while keeping high value. When working with other teams, the prices spoke upon would be checked against other companies to keep prices within the budget quoted at the very beginning of the job. This happened several times, from window purchasing to spray foam, anything that K2 wasn’t producing or building would always be scrutinized for best price. Additionally, if it was cheaper and still timely for them to take on the job physically with their current equipment and trucks compared to a larger machine rental, they would work through it for the benefit of my pocket book. On the one occasion K2 even paid for supplies (in the 100s of dollars) that had been shipped at a wrong measurement!
Don’t believe the negative reviews:
I have read a poor review of K2 on line, which was hard for me to believe. While walking in between my home and my neighbour’s house, I approached Ken with this information and he admitted that sometimes under stressful situations (i.e. hanging on to a roof) he could be abrupt on the phone and that this might come across as arrogant or abrasive. When we got to the front yard I brought up that someone in the neighbourhood had passed away, and he and his crewman consoled me over how sad this was as they had seen the family several times while on the job. I appreciated his sensitive and human response, though as a contractor he owed me nothing in the area of empathy, and I don’t consider him harsh.
At one point in the job I had a miscommunication with my wife and had to follow up on my error which had been communicated to K2. It was in the nature of not wanting to add too many minor tasks to his professional crew in order to not inflate labour costs over the long term of the one month job, but came across as wanting to cut jobs off the list because labour was too high. Ken was a patient listener to my clarification, and even offered ways to accommodate me into the work effort if I continued to be concerned about the efficacy of his team per the tasks required.
All of the crew are also quite friendly and had me chuckling as we exchanged work stories weekly at the end of the day. Truly a pleasant and professional bunch.
