Rainbow Stage

"Canada's largest and longest-running outdoor theatre" is the Google descriptor. What they don't say how uniquely magical it is to watch a much beloved musical on a beautiful summer night in Winnipeg. Because of its venue, it is a must do even if you dont like musicals. And I would recommend to amp up your overall experience, go early and have a picnic or bring takeout and enjoy Kildonan Park too. Less traffic stress and more parking available when you show up earlier. We had a great time. Not really a bad seat in the theatre. As for the seats, because it is outdoor, all the seats are hard and not padded. Bring a seat pad if you wish. It is a not-for-profit company so sets are not as grand as a profitable travelling show but they do a lot with less and use a lot of creative artistic interpretations. Most of the actors, singers, dancers, and orchestra are local talent. Staff is mostly volunteers and they have a great attitude with help. Food and drinks are priced to keep Rainbow Stage running. It is liquor licensed. Good family fun must do in Winnipeg. It will make you smile laugh sing along and do a little seat dancing.

Great shows here. The cast and crew put in a lot of work, the volunteers are friendly, any seat in the house is good. Definitely worth a visit.

We had a great time enjoying an afternoon matinee. It was a family affair and the kids enjoyed the Wizard of Oz! We will be back in the future!

Went to see the production of Wizard of Oz, was a 2 hour show in total but felt longer than that. It was definitely geared towards a younger audience, great family fun. The food was overpriced and they don't let you bring in your own drinks. Overall had a good time and it was a pleasant way to spend a summer afternoon. It might be important to note that the chairs in the theater are extremely uncomfortable.

Just saw The Hockey Sweater at the student matinee. Awesome performance from the entire cast, even in front of a slightly rowdy audience. Kudos to all, from cast to crew, to set designers and painters, to costumers, tech crew and everyone else, including all the volunteers. I was honored to play Lucille Early in No No Nanette in 1974, and Jane McFadden in Irene in 1996. I had a blast. Almost 50 years later it was a joy to sit in the audience and watch such a wonderful show, having only experienced Rainbow Stage from the footlights until now. Thank you for the wonderful show today, and for the memories it invoked. I got a bit choked up during the curtain calls, recalling taking my own bows so many years ago. What a glorious day.
