Fika Midwifery

I had a consultation at this clinic today. I was welcomed by Christina (who actually remembered me from almost a decade ago when I delivered with Eileen Stewart.) She gave me a tour of the location and offered some tea- very welcoming & calm environment. Maura understood from the beginning that I'm exploring my options with this birth and she was very attentive, caring and informative. She answered all of my questions and put my mind at ease. While I haven't decided if I will work with them I'm glad to know that we have this facility as a birthing choice in our area.

This was my third birth through a Midwife. My first was through the birthing center in Brooklyn, MY, second was at home with Eileen who is no longer practicing in Buffalo. Third was at the Coit House and Fika Midwifery. First, I love that they added the option of The Coit House as we live farther out and having the peace of mind to be close to a hospital for emergency is always nice. I believe so firmly in a birth by choice and you will find the support and answers you need through Fika. Maura was always informative and carried any conversation or concerns I carried to the end. Leaving me with no doubts as to my decisions. Lydia was the one who officially delivered us and I can't express how prompt and informative she was. She handled our birth with care, she handled every visit with calm and comfort. I was never disrespected by the model of care I felt was best for me and baby. I encourage women to consider a visit with them especially if you are borderline and unsure. They are worth it. Don't be afraid to do you own research and throw it on the table, they will be there to talk about it and come to an educated conclusion for what's best for all! My best experience with midwifery and they allowed it to happen! Thank you, thank you. I can't express enough gratitude.

After giving birth to my son I realized that I wanted a completely different model of care than the one I was receiving. I wanted to be listened to and treated like an individual. I wanted someone who provided evidence based care while still being able to hear what my needs were and take them seriously. I was so committed to finding this for both my well care and any future births that when I heard about Fika I immediately decided to try them regardless of cost. The model was everything I was looking for. I was SO excited to discover that they took my insurance and my first wellness visit was a dream come true. So easy, personal, and comfortable. It felt like a home visit! I cannot speak highly enough of the sense of calm and capability Maura exudes. I am a very science based person myself and it was so refreshing to find true evidence based care that was still personal and warm. Can't recommend enough!

Switching to Fika at 34 weeks pregnant was one of the best decisions I ever made. Maura respected my wishes for minimal intervention, while giving me the confidence that intervention would occur if medically necessary. She is incredibly professional and was by my side for my entire labor, delivery and even a few hours post-delivery. Now that is dedication!
