Tiny flame. But it's cool to see. The short hike is steep going down and back up. Took us almost an hour to go in and out.
I’ve been going to the eternal flame for decades. Usually, it’s before or after a trail run in order to cool down. I’ve noticed that over the past few years, it’s gotten very busy. Trails are well marked if you know what you’re looking for. Be sure to wear appropriate footwear and expect to run into a steep hill with many roots. I’ve seen people walk the trails sandals. They must be nuts! The park has done a good job of trying to keep everyone safe. Even the parking lot is a lot nicer than it used to be. This is a great place to take kids or for a short family hike. Again, you’ll be walking some rough terrain for about 50 yards. After that, no problems! The rest is a creek bed with a trickle of water. Just so you know, the actual flame is between 8 to 12 inches high and set back into a wall of shale, so don’t expect a roaring torch.
This was very awesome! You have to walk down a trail with a very vigorous trail. Wear shoes or boots your ok with getting wet as you need to walk along the creek. But the end is amazing! A nice waterfall coming down the ravine with the flame inserted into the rock wall. Truly a great site to see for anyone! You will not be able to take a stroller, so any small children might have to be carried. Round trip is a little over a mile, and the trails are very well marked.
Good Parking - well marked trail - a little difficult in spots but worth the trip. It's a little over half a mile and there are nearly 20 markers on the trees along the way, so it's easy to follow. The difficult part is where there are trees down or piled up along the way. You should wear boots - there's plenty of toe-high water and mud along the river bed.
