It was awesome
Fabulous site and knowledgeable guides!!
Taking a guided tour to Mistaken Point was a wonderful experience for my family. Not only did we see many fossils, but the scenery was wonderful as well.
Known as Mistaken Point, this is a wonderful place to visit to see fossils that are between 650 and 670 million years old, the oldest fossils, of this type, known to exist. There are two paths to the site, one along the coast which is sometimes shut down when there are heavy rains as there is a brook that cannot be crossed. The other path, known as the Berry Pickers path, cuts across the barren. This is the one we had to take. Both are roughly the same distance (3 kilometers) from the site however the latter is much rougher and "boggy" or "swampy" in parts so be prepared to get your feet wet. We saw a herd of 10 caribou which we likely would not have seen on the other path. It tends to be foggy even if the sun is shining 10 minutes away. It is worth the trek however to stand on a 650 million year old ocean floor.
