I'm not sure what is more amazing - the world class quality of this museum or how quickly it grew to where it is from humble beginnings. A true testament to the history, culture and spirit of the community where it resides.
Must see, great insight into the culture, history & the importance of the fishing in Newfoundland.
Worth stopping and chatting with the craftsmen....a wealth of talent in Mr. CANNING
Even if boats are only a passing interest for you, this museum will be worthwhile — for the history of water vessels in eastern Canada, for the craft that goes into making them and all their accessories, and for the community (social anthropology) history museum on the first storey.
Granted, the newly built boats themselves are beautiful, too.
This is an experience that any boat enthusiast must see. It gives a great history of the wooden boat in Newfoundland. They offer course in boat building
