Awsome place very nice and friendly staff didn’t have to pay for a few hours on the driving range I would definitely come again
A really nice course, right beside the Ocean.
Wind is a little tricky on some days but makes it more challenging. All the staff are really friendly. I am looking forward to the 5 link style holes to open. Too bad they ran out of room for another 9.
Great views! All 9 holes are on the water!
I will preface my review by stating I am a retired university professor of Turfgrass Science and Management. One of courses I taught was Golf Course Design. I have played golf since I was 11-yrs old. I have played many different golf courses across North America and in the Maritime Region of Canada. I have lived about 1-hrs drive from this golf course most of my life and played the ‘old 9 ’ holes (it used to only be a 9 hole course) hundreds of times. I have played the ‘new 5’ holes a half-dozen times or so.
MY REVIEW:
Very Welcoming staff. The old 9 holes I have played for 45 years. They have wide fairways and are relatively short in length. They are quite easy to play for any level of golfer. The greens are small, well kept, and nice to putt on with smooth ball roll. I would guess these greens would rate between 7-8 using a Stimpmeter. The quality of these holes as far as golf course design goes is average. Water views from all the holes, with several greens and one hole along the shoreline of Ferguson’s Cove of Brule Harbour, Nova Scotia.
The new 5 holes are built in the style of a seaside Scottish links course. Any level of golfer can play these holes, but only scratch golfers will score par or birdie at best. Narrowish fairways with relatively tall grass in either side. They are quite lengthy with many mounds and undulations between the professional style multi-tiered tee boxes and the PGA-USA standards greens. A couple holes have double-tiered greens and all 5 greens are sloped in several directions, which makes for some challenge putting the ball into the cup. However, the greens are well kept and fantastic to putt on with smooth ball roll. I would guess these greens would rate between 9-10 using a Stimpmeter. The quality of these holes as far as golf course design goes is excellent. Water views NNW to the Northumberland Strait, SSE to Ferguson’s Cove, and SE to Brule Harbour, Nova Scotia. Two of the holes run along the shoreline of Ferguson’s Cove.
Overall, this course is quite playable and usually in very good to excellent condition. Of course I would expect nothing less as far as condition goes because the Course Superintendent is one of my former students! LOL.
The green fees are quite reasonable for this geographic area. I would recommend anyone to play it if they are in the general area. Best of both worlds: a nice course to play, great people, and rather stunning views of the Ocean waters that are the warmest north of the Carolina’s! It is ‘cottage country’ here!
The photo I have posted with my review is taken from my cottage that is located directly across Ferguson’s Cove from the course, on the shoreline opposite.
Great course, affordable rates! The new 5 holes are awesome. Played the forward tees the first time around. Family friendly - kids had a great time - dad liked that he could play to his level from the middle and back tees. We played the original 9 too, they were in great shape and are forgiving to my slice; never lost a ball. Staff is friendly, helpful and welcoming. Definitely returning here for more golf!
