We chased down the local flavour of Moon Mist ice cream when we were out East. We love to try ice cream when we travel. The first time we tried Moon Mist we thought it was alright, but there was something about it we couldn’t put our finger on right away. We had it a second time and my 11 year old daughter said, “You know it’s all the flavours of kids medicine and the flavours taste fake.” There was nothing wrong with the quality of the ice cream, but this observation set this creative brand manager and her daughter on a tangent. We decided that though Scotsburn offers a vast selection of flavours, they are all rather traditional or comprised of traditional flavours. Some of them are dressed up with local touristy names, but this came across as trying too hard. We found ourselves reinventing Moon Mist, creating new ice creams and naming them as we walked back to our camp from Alma. I think what it really came down to is that the flavour didn’t live up to its name.
