Cyclesmith

I moved to Halifax for school in the fall of 2001, and I'm pretty sure that Cyclesmith (at it's original location on Quinpool Road) was one of the first places I visited. After a few test rides I walked away with a Giant ATX 870. Not the flashiest bike out there, but it was what I could afford and every time it went in for service they treated it like it was worth a million bucks. That makes you feel good about what you've purchased. It survived a major accident in 2002 and the mechanics were fantastic with the rebuild process.

Things changed and after about 15 years I was no longer using the bike and made the decision to sell it. Time for it to find a new home and not collect dust.

My wife and I are now proud parents and the time came to purchase bikes for everyone. Cyclesmith was the first place that came to mind. I hadn't visited the new location on Agricola yet, and I was blown away by their setup. There are certainly a bunch of faces that I don't recognize, but everyone I approached (or was approached by) was friendly and helpful. Our two kids were properly fitted for bikes and treated like royalty - they loved every minute of it. I was next, followed by my wife. Four bikes in total and no regrets. I've been back a couple of times for accessories (which are discounted for a limited time after you buy a bike!) and have had to go through a fitting process for those. Again, friendly, helpful, knowledgeable staff who made me feel good about my purchases.

Both kids started from scratch but were riding within a week on their new wheels - we're all looking forward to group rides on local trails. It's been a fantastic month, and a lot of that revolved around our experience at Cyclesmith.

I worked retail throughout COVID and it was an absolute slog. A huge thank you to everyone there for making us feel welcome and safe. I think that's a hard thing to do after what we've all been through. We'll be back, and we'll encourage as many people as possible to do the same.

I have nothing but positive things to say about my experience with Cyclesmith in Halifax. I went in three months ago to see what they had available for E-Bikes, and ended up walking out with one...

James (and any of the other staff members I interacted with) were incredibly friendly and knowledgable. I felt comfortable making the purchase knowing I had support from them should I need any assistance. I was especially pleased with the free service that comes with the new bike (as long as you bring it back within a certain time window). Just had the bike serviced to tune a few things up, and was again really happy with the help I received. Would definitely recommend Cyclesmith for your next bike purchase!

Very positive experience with Cyclesmith. I ordered a bike trainer online from BC; there's a missing part in the manufacturer's package. Kudos to Philip - he responded quickly and kindly to my inquiry and UPS'ed me a brand new replacement provided with a free return label for the defective product. I will definitely shop again with confidence!

I recently bought a new bike here. The service I received from two staff members (Tor and Greg I believe) was really exceptional. The staff are knowledgeable, helpful and kind and I appreciate that they all wear masks. I understand this is a locally owned business that pays their employees a living wage, so I would much rather spend money here than a chain store. Very happy with the bike and accessories too!

Snapped my shimano crank and had to buy a new one. Cyclesmith was the only place that had it. After I placed the order Phil personally called me explaining that crank wasn't available, but he had an upgraded one for the same price. I was impressed by the personal touch.
I live in northern Ontario and shipping seems very quick.
I have since placed a second order for my bottom bracket.
This place is a gem.
