BLT Rails to Trails

Love running in the trails! There are so many steep climbs-
Trails are good for mountain bikers also!

The BLT trail is my favourite trail for cycling. There is a small parking lot at the start of the trail and space for on street parking. The trail is flat gravel and you can see people walking, cycling, and running. There are many scenic look off points on the trail and a few places with benches to rest. Overall, an easy trail and you can determine how far you want to go before turning back.

This is one of my favourite places to bike. It’s linear, which makes for a smooth ride for beginners. I like to start on the paved chain of lakes trail because I find it easier to find parking. Great views of the lakes and plenty of shelter from the sun in the summer.

Excellent trail for running and walking! It is particularly beautiful in the autumn. Winter snow clearance is only the natural sort, so be prepared for icy conditions if there has been a recent freeze/thaw cycle. Convenient distance markers make running for a specific distance easy. The trail is shared with cyclists and quads, so be prepared to watch out for them.

I live in Greenwood heights and haven't had much chance to explore all the trails, only a teeny portion between Guardian Pharmacy and Brentwood ave. Even this tiny portion is breathtaking. I can't wait to get out and explore more.

I do wish there were more garbage bins along the trail. The part of the trail by Fitzgerald's Grocery on St. Margarets Bay Road is always covered in garbage, such pain to see, even though there is a bin right there. I know there are wonderful facebook groups for people who care about this trail and organize clean ups. Take care of your nature, people — we only have so much of it left.

If you wander off the path and go to the woods, it's like being in a Shishkin's painting. Magical.
