I'm so grateful we still have a zoo in Nova Scotia. Staffs are more than friendly and the place is clean and nice.
Thanks to the Covid, feeding animals and gathering are no longer our possible options, so don't expect the lions' dining time which happens after hours by employees only.
I myself would love to spend more time in here but with the kids your time is basically limited to their patience plus consuming some fantastic french fries.
I hope the existing (pandemic) rules change in the near future for fully vaccinated visitors that they can enjoy the zoo the way it used to be.
Oaklawn farm is a great spot for families. They have a great variety of animals from lemurs, monkeys, marmosets, to great cats like Jaguars and Lions. Local wildlife is also featured such as bears, owls, and barnyard staples like goats, cows, and pigs. The baby goats are especially endearing. The grounds are always clean and the staff friendly.
Great way to spend a day with the family. The place was very clean and well-kept. They had lions, leopards, all kinds of different monkeys, and various other animals. And, it's not expensive at all. I recommend spending a morning or afternoon at the Oaklawn Zoo, you can plan to get through it in 1-2 hours if you keep walking on the path, or 3-4 hours if you stop to read all or some of the displays and fun-fact boards. Go to the zoo and then go for lunch or diner at the zoo, or, if you need a change of venue, go to the Farmer's Family Diner just down the road - the food is awesome there.
I took my kids there and they loved it. They have a big selection of different animals. I especially like the orange arrows showing you where to go. The arrows help you see every animal. The people who work there are very polite and don't hesitate to try to help you out anyway they can. I will definitely be going back. Reasonable prices for everything.
Kids really enjoyed all the animals! Enclosures are large and full of vegetation. There are some great places set up in shaded areas, for picnics throughout the zoo. Not crowded at all for a sunny Sunday. Washrooms could use an upgrade as the locks on the stalls in the ladies' room aren't working at all, or not well.
