“The Strait Area Museum is small but mighty! Angie and team are very welcoming and share so much interesting information and anecdotes about the history of the Causeway and surrounding areas. Very neat historical items, records of the area, and a gift shop, ice cream barn and gazebo. A great place to spend some time.”

“What a great place to get a feel for traditional lifestyles in this part of the world. Started off with lunch in the museum store (local dish, Rappie pie - either you like it or you don't). Tour consists o two salvaged houses (with backstories on the original owners), an old post office, a blacksmith (with a functioning forge), a boat shop (dorries under construction), a fish factory (hand made salt cod - tasty), and a fish shanty (equipment storage and repair). The docents were exceptional with personal knowledge of the area and the times depicted. Lot of fish tales, so to speak. Well worth the time, especially on a beautiful day.”

“This is such a unique place to visit steeped in local history and lore! The Bell Tower is a must where you can look out over the inner islands and 3 lighthouses are visible from that vantage point. This is to be a "must -do" on anyones list while travelling through the South Shore. And bonus! It is free , no admission charge. ( either way it would still be a place not to miss!!)”

“If you like a place where you can feel like you are authentically transported back in time to when the earliest French settlers came to this land and lived in harmony with the Natives, then this is the place. Well researched and well created, this museum in the wild; answered questions I had while researching my mother's family roots. If you're in the area, you HAVE to visit this place!”

“Loved it! Worth the time to visit. The building is quite old and they have the walls opened to view the different construction methods over it's lifespan. Enjoyed the information presented by the people running the show. There's an Acadian connection to the building including murals.”

“Really great place to learn about the earlist English settlers in Nova Scotia (the Planters). Our docent was exceptional (born and bred in the area) and filled in all the blanks regarding who and when. It's another example of local individuals stepping in to prevent the demoltion of historic buildings and to contribute to their restoration. Some of the history was ugly, but as our guide pointed out, if you don't confront the past, you can't correct the future.”

“Went to the Military Museum on the 2nd floor of the museum complex. The collection is from local participants in WW I, WWII, and the Korean War. The artifacts are interesting but limited, and there isn’t much in the way of details.”

“I'm unsure of where I can begin. If you are going to Nova Scotia you MUST visit Shelbourne and make the drive to the Black Loyalist Heritage Society, it is full of information and history that will make you uncomfortable and is missed in our school textbooks. However needed to fully understand the history and be able to educate younger generations. The artifacts and flow of the museum is amazing. Hailey who was our introduction person was amazing and explained everything we needed to know in depth, she took us to the school house and showed us to the Pit house. While directing us to the church house, we had the pleasure of meeting the Executive Director Andrea who was an absolute pleasure to meet. You can tell by the passion in Andrea's eyes and knowledgeable conversation she is right where she belongs. She has some big plans for the Black Loyalist Heritage Society and was so informative. 10/10 I recommend this as a place to put on your list of things to do.”

“We’ve been here multiple times and always come back! Seems like we see stuff that we hadn’t seen in times before. The staff are super friendly and informative and they have an awesome gift shop with lots of neat period trinkets. Make sure to ask about the window glass in the shop. We heard a really neat story on that!”
