Spectacular view and fun experience to climb so high. Then imagine what it was like for the lighthouse keeper to go out onto the outdoor balcony to clean the windows. Skinny, rusting railing, gale force winds. Children were allowed to go out there. Times change. The guides tell you about the ghost, Lady Lillian. She was my grandmother. Hope the lighthouse and house museum will be open this summer. Looking forward to a posting of the openings.
Beautiful blue water sandy beach. The sand bars make this stretch of Lake Huron quite warm (although sometimes it’s pretty chilly!!)
Beautiful 1855 Imperial Lighthouse, built in a series of 6 (supposed to have been 11- but limestone lighthouses are expensive to make). Best one in Ontario IMO.
Looks fairly well maintained. Bear in mind it’s quite old so some things appear dated. The museum has some interesting items and information. Some of the signs could use replacing but for the most part things are in good shape. The lighthouse itself is a bit of climb as expected. Bear in mind if you have very young children that it’s not steps but ladder/steps for most of the climb. It can be a bit of a bear coming down with a young one. Nice views at the top (google doesn’t seem to accept pano shots).
Interesting building that you can climb to the top. It costs and it's basic, but the view is nice.
