The Main Event

I’ve never written a review before, but after my experience with Angela at The Main Event in Port Elgin, I couldn’t not!
The next time you’re thinking about doing something crazy-nice for someone, or throwing a party…CALL THE MAIN EVENT. Angela’s friendly, creative, thoughtful and just plain really good at what she does. You don’t need to be Richy McRich to have that experience, you just feel rich – what’s not to love about that? If you’re not the creative sort and tend to lean sending flowers (a lovely traditional gift, true), give The Main Event a call and let Angela be creative for you. Flowers are almost an expected gift, given their popularity. Why not do something UNexpected? It’s easier than you may think and certainly so, with Angela at the helm.
If you’ve got the time, here’s what my experience looked like and why I “speak” with such confidence about it…
We live in Calgary and our nephew was working at the Dr. Earl Health Centre in Port Elgin, when he turned 30. He needed to complete a certain amount of hours at a rural location, for his medical degree, otherwise he resided in Toronto. As 30 is one of those milestone years, we wanted to do something special for him. I must add that, in the weeks leading up to The Day, we had set our bar so high, that we became more panicked as the date approached. The more panicked we became, the less creative we felt (and we’re pretty creative folks, not to brag). So, it wasn’t until 2 days before and out of desperation, that we googled “balloons in Port Elgin” and found The Main Event and Angela, the owner.
Luckily, we had a few ideas in mind that day (I guess we work best under pressure), never thinking that our ideas would actually be made real. But, they were. Thanks to Angela.
Not only did Angela send us pics, as the pieces were coming together, but also a pic of our nephew at the clinic, holding his cake (with a personal saying on it and a “30” candle– plates and forks included – whaaaa?), standing next to his balloon bouquet (weighted down with a big honkin’ Toblerone bar – our special request, which Angela was able to source), with a super-cute birthday card that Angela created just for him, with a stethoscope on it and “30” worked into the shape). I damned near cried, when I saw that picture. Imagine…you’re nowhere near your loved one, yet there’s a picture of them, with their special stuff, so that you can see it with your own eyes and feel like you’re right there with them, at that moment.
I consider this to be proof positive that there is just no event too small for Angela. Believe me, I was hesitant to even go there, thinking that she’s gonna think that I’m that person who can “buy” anything and have their personal concierge take care of it, when in reality, quite the opposite is true. I mean, really – this was one person celebrating a birthday, not some big party or event. But, from word one on the phone, Angela was right there with me. And stayed there, every step of the way. She took it from card, cake, balloons, to an event. It was because of the personal touches that were added to each piece – that’s what kicked it up a notch, or nine.
So, if you think that it costs a lot to reeeeeally make someone’s day and to get exceptional service, think again. I went there and I’m so glad that I did.
