I successfully completed my Canadian Firearm Safety Course with Gilles this past weekend - it was amazing! He is an excellent instructor and genuinely works to ensure you are safe and feel comfortable with all of the firearms. The facilities are top notch (the chairs are superb!) and the one-on-one instruction is invaluable. If you are considering taking your CFSC, take it here! You will not be disappointed. I am already registered for my Ontario Hunter Education Course with hm in a couple of weeks and I am very excited. I was incredibly nervous leading up to this course and before the written and practical exams, but Gilles worked very hard at instilling a sense of confidence in me and all of his students. Top notch!
I took all my training - Canadian Non-restricted and Restricted Firearms Safety Courses and Ontario Hunter Education Course with Gilles Lecompte at Ontario Hunters Ed in December 2018. Instruction was professional, interesting, and succinct, in a clean comfortable facility, with refreshments provided. Payment was easy with PayPal, and I was able to find inexpensive accomodation in the area through AirBnB. Extra effort was made to accomodate my needs as a visitor from outside the area, when weather was threatening. I highly recommend Gilles to anyone for any training. Thanks!
I took my restricted course here a couple weeks ago and have nothing but good things to say. The facility was very clean and well stocked. The instructor was very friendly and very knowledgeable. Location was easy to get to as well. Over all it was a great experience and I had a lot of fun.
After an absence of more than 35 years from firearms, I wanted to undertake the CFSC for non restricted firearms. A young friend of mine who lives in Hammond, Ontario wanted to take the course as well and after some extensive research on my part I registered through Ontario Hunter's Ed as did my friend. We attended a two day course at Gilles Lecompte's training centre just outside of Hammond near Cheney which was only a few minute's drive for my friend and about 45 minutes for me from downtown Ottawa. The training program he delivered was created by the RCMP and is extremely comprehensive and is very much safety oriented. Gilles is a very experienced course instructor and his facility is nothing short of excellent. His teaching method is relaxed yet he provides a wealth of knowledge of theory and practice all while using fully operational firearms (firing pins removed): hinge action; bolt action; pump action; semi-automatic etc. The course is a blend of theory and full hands on (no shooting just handling). This course is mandatory in order to obtain a Canadian PAL but think of it as an investment in learning how to safely handle, transport, display and store firearms and ammunition. The examination process includes a theory exam and a practical (with oral questions) examination with an outside examiner. It is very detailed and requires strict requirements so pay attention in class, practice firearms handling and read the CFSC study manual. I give Gilles and the examiner a solid 10/10.
Very nice, professional, positive people runs the facility. They make the whole course easy to study. Highly recommend!
