A beautiful walk around island lake, a bit busy on weekends, but well worth the hike to the far side where crowds thin out. This is the perfect place to take your dog for a walk or swim. Lots of fish to be caught as well.
Pleasant mix of wooded and lake walking. Variety of habitats for good birding. The distance around the lake is approximately 10 km. It's a great place for people with different abilities. We saw parents with babies and toddlers, people with motorized wheelchairs, etc.
It was great. Very educational, especially for the young ones. Went for the maple syrup ????. Although the admission wasn't reasonable $10 per person. The experience was great. Got some samples and was able to purchase a bottle of maple syrup.
We drove from Toronto to Island Lake conservation area because of the list of activities. We enjoyed a lot, starting from scavenger hunt, marshmallow on the fire, trails, native method of maple processing, early European method, latest process, sugar shack, maple taffy, maple shots, face painting, amazing pan cakes, and beautiful snowy day. Everything was amazing and staff were very welcoming.
The ground was partially frozen so please dress properly and wear good shoes to enjoy more.
Love our visits here. The first time was in summer where we had a picnic and hiked around part of the lake. We then rented canoes and paddled a bit. Rental prices were fair and staff were very friendly and helpful.
The second visit was in winter on Family Day, where we snowshoed across the lake, and then around, easily 5Km in distance. Scenery was enjoyable and watching people ice fishing was a first for us. Lots of room for everyone, and it was busy, but lines to rent snowshoes were reasonable and again staff were efficient and friendly. This is a place my family will visit again.
