Kevin and Cathy are such great hosts. Room was amazing, bed super comfortable. They went above and beyond to ensure our stay was memorable. Will definitely be back! So peaceful. ❤ Fred was a special treat! ❤
You know the accommodations are great when they become one of your favourite parts of the trip. The Wandering Dog Inn is incredibly special and made our adventure to Pelee Island an amazing getaway. Cathy and Kevin were the perfect hosts; warm, helpful, and chalk-full of good stories and island history. Visits from their uber-friendly dog, Fred, were an added bonus. The breakfast was excellent and they built us a bonfire for one of the warm fall evenings. The cabins are beautiful and immaculately clean, with super comfortable beds, charcoal barbecues, and kitchen basics. Each cabin has a large, private screened-in porch — perfect for having an afternoon nap in the slung-up hammock, or a glass of wine and a game of crib while listening to the waves crashing on the coast, just down the road. The grounds, gardens, and main house feel like a step back in time, and are totally picture-worthy.
We loved our time on Pelee Island - the slow-down mentality, friendly locals, beautiful landscapes, and the unique wildlife. It was everything an escape from the daily grind should be, and The Wandering Dog inn made us feel completely relaxed, comfortable, and connected to the Island so we could really take it all in. Thank you!
We love to go a-wandering, and the Wandering Dog Inn was the perfect base. Kathy and Kevin could not have been more friendly and helpful: absolutely perfect hosts. The (included) breakfasts were delicious and satisfying. Our suite in the back was spacious, clean and delightful. Especially appreciated was our private large screened porch with a table, chairs and hammock; my husband napped there every day. Should we return to the island, we will return to the inn.
For several years I have been wanting to visit Pelee Island and finally had a chance during the pandemic to travel with my son for a guys 2 night/ 3 day road trip to this faraway southern tip of Canada.
We only booked about 2 weeks in advance and were fortunate to find a room at the best place on the Island by far to stay--The Wandering Dog Inn. We stayed in the Millpoint suite which had a super comfortable King bed within an oversized room. The A/C was a little noisy but the Innkeeper Kevin was fully aware of the situation and he was quite genuinely concerned about our satisfaction and enjoyment throughout our stay which made it all feel better. A wonderfully friendly American guy with some great stories and a terrific sense of humour.
Innkeeper Cathy was super helpful from the very beginning as my son forgot a AA battery for his insulin pump which could have been a real disaster for us as there are no options for buying such items on short notice on the island. Thank you Cathy for those batteries!
For breakfast you make your selection the night before, choose the time you want your meal and lastly select if you want to eat it in the lovely closed in porch area of the main part of the Inn or at your suite. The quality, quantity and the presentation of the breakfast was all very good.
While we were there the first day and a half were extremely windy and rainy so when we finally decided to ride our bikes around the island, we encountered some wicked 35 knot winds and water splashing over the rocks onto the muddy dirt roads. As a result our bikes were covered in mud by the time we completed a short 20 km route around the southern half of the island. Fortunately, Cathy allowed us to rinse our bikes off with the garden hose so we could ride again around the north half the next day.
One of the nice things you will find at this cozy Inn is a good selection of board games, playing cards and a nice outdoor campfire that Kevin prepares in the evening. If you want to BBQ something, Kevin will also fire up the charcoal grill for you.
Compared to some of the other places on the Island the price per night was on the higher side, but certainly worth every cent. I highly recommend The Wandering Dog Inn.
What a wonderful stay at The Wandering Dog. The innkeepers Kevin & Kathy are such kindhearted, accommodating people that go above & beyond in making sure guests are comfortable and having a great time on Pelee Island. My husband & I stayed in the Fish Point suite for our “mini moon” following our wedding the previous weekend and we had a lovely time; it was a great combination of a cozy, quiet experience, while also getting to mingle and meet other guests staying at the inn & spending time talking by the bonfire at night. The rooms were clean and the AC was much appreciated, our favourite was the two person hammock out in the main area. We rented bikes and they were delivered right to the inn, Kathy gave us some inside scoops for which spots to check out! Definitely the best place to stay on the island, not to mention the breakfast in the morning is delightful! Thank you for a great stay once again Kevin & Kathy!
