I have mixed feelings about this product so I have broken this into two parts.
This one is for their siding product - 5 stars
The other is for their hearthstone. -1 star

    Siding - 5 stars
The Great Lakes stone we used on the exterior of our house is a brilliant product. We also used it on a fireplace with great results.
It looks fantastic, is easy to install and is good value compared to alternative products.

The clip system could not be easier to use and the natural gap between the stone and wall prevents moisture buildup and risk of water damage.

There are application instructions are clear and the product support was very good. 8' starter strips would be a good option but that's nitpicking.

    I highly recommend this product.

    Hearthstone -1 star
These stones do not nest together at all and leave large gaps between them when placed side by side. This is not a good quality when the purpose is to prevent stray coals from the fireplace from causing a fire

Since these are manufactured stones this problem could easily be overcome by modifying the design so the nest property and/or a matching mortar was available from the manufacturer.

At the very least this information should be available as part of the product description and installation instructions.

I called their customer service for advice and they were no help whatsoever. The lady who answered sounded like she hadn't heard the question before (maybe she hadn't) but had no interest in understanding the problem. She provided no help whatsoever. This was a terrible customer service experience.

In the end I wound up cutting the stones to square the sides and used a mortar between them.
These have the potential to be a good product but as they are I wouldn't recommend them.

I just want to share my Installation experiences of Great Lakes stone.
I consider myself with above average DIY experience.
I installed about 350 sq ft of stone itself, with sill stone under windows and across the top to meet existing siding. This included 5 corners. One 90 outside, one 90 inside
and three “other then” outside corners.
I rated 3 star because it is expensive and very labour intensive or maybe I’m too fussy...
To start with, they should make the starter strips in 8 or 10 foot lengths.
They don’t mention much about the starter strip, flashing and building wrap joint, only on the drawing. They also don’t mention capping the open end gaps.
If the light conditions are right, you can see the building wrap through the stone spaces. Each stone must be inspected for imprecations. I bought two “device box” stones but didn’t use them. They didn’t fit PVC boxes...besides I think it looks better with out them.
Using a torpedo level for a job like this as they recommend would a disaster to meet the existing siding over 50’.
I used 4 different cutting tools to make the job look professional.
The overall look of the Great Lakes is 5 star if you worry about the details.

    IMO
