Craigleith Provincial Park

Pros:
Staff and rangers are super chill. A very live and let live attitude.
Right on the water, and the lake and view is quite nice.
Convenient location. LCBO is 1km down the road.

Cons:
Crummy sites: No privacy, little shade, and the ground is too sandy.
I know I said the water is nice, but the beach is almost non existent.

Both pro and con:
Comically close to the road. You will 100% see and hear cars. It will definitely kill the mode, but does a great job of masking any other ambient noises, like snoring neighbours or your own drunken hoots and hollers.

You must understand what you are signing up for if you go here. People don't come here to commune with nature, they come here to take a couple dips in the lake, and get wasted. If that's what you are into doing this weekend, then come on down. Otherwise, look elsewhere.

It is what it is.

The water was very cold, to the point where you felt warmer going out of the water while still in it. The lake is crystal clear and blends with the horizon. There is a long trail available for bikers to ride around. Campsites are seldom private, few trees to cover your area. Road is right beside the camp, so the park can be seen from the roadside. Not a lot of light pollution compared to large cities, so you can enjoy some stargazing.

Wonderful camping experience with friends and family. Visitors either need a day pass or a campsite pass to get in. There is a 15 mins parking upfront which would give you enough time to purchase tickets. Campsite is very close to clean fresh Georgian Bay water. Washrooms are very clean and near Campsite as well. Camp store has most of the items you would need in case you left something home, including fire wood. Roads through the campsite seem little tight but manageable.

Great site, probably the best night we could have had weather-wise, water level was really high and no beach to speak of, but it was still beautiful. Dog beach was actually one of the nicest areas. Amazing to sleep with the sound of the waves hitting the shoreline.

Camp store has a good variety of sundry items you may need if you forget something, and staff were very friendly. Staff are also great at being out and patrolling the campgrounds constantly. Washrooms were clean.

Would definitely recommend, although be warned there are only a few really amazing sites. Limited number of private / shady sites, and most of the west end sites of the park have absolutely no shade or privacy.

I do like many aspects of Craigleith Provincial Park, but not all. There are some things that I feel that they were lacking compared to other Provincial Parks I have camped at, but its still a good campground overall.

They are positioned almost right on the lake, many campsites are maybe 50 feet from the water, so very nice for proximity and if you want a quick dip. They also have a playground for the little ones, a volleyball court with net which we used for badminton, a open field for various sports, and a horseshoe pit. The Office doubles as a Park Store and is open late (11 pm) for any last minute quick purchases of camping essentials (but their selection is small).

Unfortunately, their waterfront lacks sand and consists of rocks, many many rocks, so bring water shoes. There is no actual beach, but campers of Craigleith Provincial Park get free parking at Wasaga Beach (if you want to drive that far). Many campsites have limited privacy and many simply have 1-3 trees between campsites. You can often see through many campsites as there is no brush to offer privacy between sites. It looks as though they recently planted baby trees between some sites so that should help offer privacy and protection from the sun, in about 20 years. Lastly, the washrooms are not quite up to par with some other Provincial Park washrooms, they could use a little work but I'll admit they are still better then many other campgrounds I have visited.

Overall, my family had fun here and this is a campground I would visit again if some of my other preferred campgrounds have no vacancy.
