With major basement waterproofing and renovations needed, we hired Kalos Engineering to produce residential construction drawings as required for a permit application with the City of Hamilton. JP Campana was our assigned engineer. On the first site visit, JP surveyed our property and analyzed our home and basements (we have a side split with two basement levels). He was able to explain with professional accuracy how the levels of the home (including the basements) appeared to be structurally built, and which areas had foreseeable potential for improvements. He was accompanied by Tosh McFarlane, a designer at Kalos Engineering, who assisted with measurements, photographs, and other generalized engineering data collection. With the first visit, they were able to produce well-drafted floor schematics detailing the technical specifications for the interior waterproofing system and structural reinforcement design. We received the preliminary drawings quickly and were able to make additional changes to them. After all edits were made, we received the final stamped drawings which were conveniently formatted for an effortless upload to the City of Hamilton’s online Permit application system. No changes were requested by the city, which stands testament to the professional thoroughness of the drawings and their format. After demolition began and the basement’s were exposed bare, JP returned to further study the structure and advise on additional adjustments to the design. We felt he truly worked in our best interest to pursue a balanced trade-off between the new adjustments and their associated cost. JP is a busy engineer working on both commercial and residential projects but despite his schedule, he was still relatively prompt in our back and forth communications. Kalos’s pricing is very fair, their capability and expertise are top notch, and we highly recommend them to anyone in need of solid engineering consultation and/or drawings for a permit.
