This is a great place to train. Whether you're doing it to improve your BJJ, better your physical and mental health... Professor Jay is one of the top instructors in the area with the history to back it up. If you're looking to try a new location and Professor, definitely give this one a shot.
I used to train with Jay a year or so ago and he is one of the best professors I’ve ever had. He teaches Brazilian Jiu Jitsu in a methodical and simple way and he finds ways to incorporate self defence in different lessons as well, which I find is very useful and not taught as much as it should be. As for the club, it has always been a friendly environment, mats and equipment are always clean and sanitized, and safety is a priority. If you have time, I would definitely recommend stopping by and trying out a class.
If you are in the Belleville area and looking to learn a martial art, then I would highly recommend you check out Alcateia Brazilian Jiu Jitsu.
Professor Jason's passion for the sport shows in his teaching, he is a true black belt coming from world class lineage. Classes are fun, structured and are a great work out.
The atmosphere in the club embraces the Brazilian lifestyle.
With an ever changing world, theres no doubt in my mind that learning Brazilian Jiu Jitsu is the best sport out there period.
I've been training under Prof. Jay for 9 years. He makes sure you've earned your rank and need to prove your skill; if you are unwilling to adapt and improve you will remain where you are for many years. Extremely high levels of accountability and ethic which I have seen lacking in much of modern BJJ practice.
His teaching methods are clear and concise, with his primary interest being your personal improvement and the development the team. He has a very high level understanding of the mechanics which govern BJJ and clearly explains the details of each technique and concept.
Jason demonstrates the mechanics which cause movements, pressures, and angles to successfully combine into techniques. He also teaches his students how to apply and adapt those techniques to all potential positions and opponents. I highly, highly recommend training under him for beginners, and experts. You will always discover a new way to improve!
Alcateia BJJ is a great club and Jason is a one of a kind instructor. His approach is detailed and thorough. I feel fortunate to have found the club and had the opportunity to train there. It has been a major part of my 4 kids upbringing and will continue to be.
